One Second After is a very eye opening book and was cited on the floor of Congress as "a book all Americans should read."  They say it is a truly realistic and terrifying look at what could happen if our enemies should decide to use an Electromagnetic Pulse weapon against us.  You'll see how quickly civil unrest will widely spread, as well as the many neccessities you'll suddenly be searching for as water, food, power sources, and medicines become very hard to find.

The Survival Medicine Handbook is a "must-have" for your emergency library.  Written by Joseph Alton MD and Amy Alton APRN, their goal is to help you "identify, treat, and/or prevent sickness and injury in austere settings" when you don't have access to medical professionals.  They have dug deep into practices of 19th-century medicine and combined it with their modern-day knowledge to help you be prepared to survive in an off-the-grid situation.
